Maths Recovery is a one to one maths programme which focuses mainly on improving a child’s understanding of number. Children arrive at school with differing levels of knowledge in maths. This programme can quickly identify children who would otherwise be at risk of falling behind. The programme is not age related and involves no reading or writing for the child. Most of the work is done orally. Children are helped to discover and use strategies for working out math problems at their own pace. The programme is mainly aimed at children in first class but the strategies they learn can be used at any age.

Ms Mooney, our Maths Recovery teacher, has received extensive training in implementing the programme. Selected children receive a half an hour a day of individualised teaching. This individualised work with children helps them to succeed in the mainstream classroom.
